If you’re interested in playing in SLJO, you are welcome to come along to one of our Rehearsals. Simply complete the joining form at the bottom of this page and we’ll be in touch soon.
There’s no charge for the anyone attending their first couple of rehearsals, giving you a taste of our weekly activities and some time to decide whether you’d like to join.
Please note that SLJO is currently oversubscribed for alto sax, clarinet and trumpet players, so you may have fewer opportunities to perform than with instruments such as trombone, baritone sax or tenor sax. Also note that we do not accept flute or soprano sax players, as we have no regular parts available for these.
Benefits of membership
All members of SLJO are entitled to come to rehearsals and play at our gigs (about half of these are by invitation to limited the size of the band to match the venue), and are welcome to join us on tour.
You’ll receive a free SLJO T-shirt and have the chance to buy an exclusive SLJO black hoodie to help keep you warm during our outdoor gigs.
We also hope you’ll get the added benefits of improving your musical abilities, making new friends, having new experiences and bringing jazz music to the community.
Once you’ve joined, you’ll be included on the e-mail circulation list to make sure you’re kept up to date with all of the latest news and information, and you’ll also be given access to our intranet site so you can sign up for gigs.
If you’d like to get involved in the running of the group, you can become a member of the Committee, and can also join the Trustees’ Committee of South London Community Music, our parent organisation. If committee meetings aren’t your thing, you’ll also have the opportunity to put your name forward to carry out one-off tasks such as gig management, which provides good (free!) training and helps you get to know other people in the band.
We actively encourage everyone to contribute to the SLJO in some way or other, enabling us to remain both a well organised and ambitious musical ensemble.
£39 per quarter or £13 per month, i.e. £156 a year
£13 per quarter for concessions (those who do not pay income tax)
We ask members to take out a standing order as this is easier all round. If you pay UK tax, we’d appreciate it if you’d complete a Gift Aid form so we can benefit from your subscription by reclaiming tax through the Gift Aid Scheme.
If, for any reason, you do need to pay us by cheque, please make it payable to The South London Jazz Orchestra.
For further details on payment, you can contact our Treasurer at email@example.com.
